BDSA expects Memorial Day weekend to bring blockbuster cannabis sales as consumers — many of them fully vaccinated — kick off the summer season.
Looking at last year, the research firm noted Colorado pre-holiday sales were up compared to 2019, with around a 25 percent increase for both the Friday and Saturday before the holiday. With fewer to no pandemic-related restrictions, sales could perform even better.
Additionally, BDSA noted that half of consumers in fully-legal states say they consume cannabis most often for “daytime fun” purposes – aligning with the nature of Memorial Day weekend celebrations.
BDSA added it’s keeping an eye on cannabis beverages this summer. While beverages remain a small percentage of total cannabis retail dollar sales (1-2 percent), the emergence and expansion of new and hot brands, social gatherings, and warmer weather could boost beverage sales across mature and new legal cannabis markets.
