Cannabis Doing Good has launched the CDG Gives program, through which leading cannabis companies and inspired individuals aim to collect $15,000 by May 31 for communities impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. As of April 20, CDG Gives had raised $7,500.

“We are all struggling, but the unhoused, the hungry and frontline workers will need our support today and months from now,” said Cannabis Doing Good CEO Courtney Mathis. “And despite not yet qualifying for any relief dollars, we felt, as neighbors, small businesses and community members, it was our opportunity to contribute. We knew many folks in our sector that would want to, too.”

Even in the midst of an international pandemic, many nonprofits are wary to accept cannabis dollars. However, through relationship development, trust and transparency, CDG has identified three community treasures, Urban Peak, MetroCaring and Friends In Weed, that are having a measurable impact on the communities most devastated by COVID-19: the unhoused, the hungry and frontline workers at dispensaries and restaurants.

"Many cannabis business owners entered this industry because they wanted to help others,”  said Brian Vicente, founding partner, Vicente Sederberg, LLC. “They are providing medicine to patients, growing sustainable hemp crops, creating good jobs and actively benefiting their communities. Vicente Sederberg LLP is proud to support this initiative, which is bringing cannabis businesses, consumers, and others together to make an even larger positive impact during this trying time.”

Partners of the Cannabis Doing Good Giving Initiative, include Lightshade, University of Denver, Vicente Sederberg, Starbuds, Mason Jar Event Group, Ok Ok Creative, Veritas, 1906, Cookies, Olio, Maverick Public Relations, kindColorado and PufCreativ.

“Times are tough,” Mathis said. “Many of us are overwhelmed, and many of us are finding moments of gratitude. The good news is, we are in this together and each finding our own way to reach out and offer support. Every little bit helps, and any amount of participation is welcome — even just a share on social media.”
