Fortis Law Partners has tapped attorney Alyson Jaen to lead the firm’s expanding cannabis practice.

Jaen specializes in cannabis law, licensing and regulatory compliance, as well as general corporate and business law. She has filed hundreds of applications for an array of cannabis licenses in nearly every state that has a regulated legal cannabis industry.

Jaen represents clients before state regulatory agencies, such as the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division and the Denver Department of Excise and Licenses. She also provides guidance on international compliance. Jaen works closely with Vinciane Baskerville, head of compliance for Fortis’ sister company, Full Velocity Consulting, who provides compliance audits.

“There are few industries more regulated than cannabis,” Jaen said. “And it’s not always easy for companies – especially new ones – to be on top of it all. That’s where this practice and the combined expertise of the entire Fortis firm, along with Full Velocity Consulting, can be the most effective for our clients.”

Fortis Law Partners is a longtime leader in counseling businesses and individuals in legal cannabis markets, where the firm leverages its broad expertise for an array of companies at every level of the cannabis supply chain. The firm also advises investors in this multibillion-dollar emergent market. Its clients include licensed marijuana interests, grow facilities, dispensaries, international cannabinoid suppliers and hemp stakeholders.

Full Velocity Consulting brings together the leading minds in C-Suite services, management, business structure, compliance, finance and more, to provide guidance for some of the most complicated and dynamic aspects of running a successful company.

“At Fortis, we assist clients in applying for cannabis licenses to operate,” said Fortis partner and attorney Henry Baskerville. “But that’s just a small part of what we do. We also advise on litigation and employment matters in the cannabis industry, as well as on M&A issues, due diligence matters, general corporate, and all the complex state and federal tax issues that affect people doing business in this space. And we specifically tasked Alyson Jaen with helping our clients navigate the compliance and regulatory obstacles and avoid litigation many face in this ever-changing marketplace today.”

Prior to joining Fortis, Jaen worked at a Denver law firm where she advised public and private companies on federal enforcement risks in legal cannabis markets. She has assisted in more than $1 billion of transactions for the cannabis industry, including performing due diligence with new acquisitions.

Jaen earned her law degree in 2014 from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law.
